In both Polish and global design, traditional craft methods are becoming increasingly valued. We can say that this return to the roots is caused by increasing social awareness. We increasingly focus on uniquely made products that will serve several generations. Just as it was the case several decades ago.
traditional craft methods
At Salak, we focus on hand-crafted woodworking. We roll our own balls and refine every detail at the final stage in the heart of our workshop.
A family passion for craftsmanship
How did the idea of using manual woodworking in Salak studio come about?
My grandparents have worked in woodworking for as long as I can remember. As a little girl, I had the opportunity to admire and experience woodworking. From my earliest years, almost every day I was intrigued by the work of my Grandfather, who was passionate about patriotic sculpture. What fascinated me about wood was its plasticity, the fact that with proper manual processing we are able to extract the most wonderful features from it, and thanks to the chisel we can change its form and give it a unique shape.

When did my love for wood begin?
Exactly 18 years ago I got my first chisel and since then wood has been my constant companion. In my early years as a teenager, meetings with my Grandfather and carving wood together became my oasis, a moment of oblivion and escape from everyday life. Interestingly, both my Grandfather on my father’s and mother’s side were closely connected to this material and they both created beautiful sculptures that still hang on the walls in my loved ones’ homes.
Turning
What is it?
It is manual woodworking – using a chisel and special rotary machines, we give blocks of wood the shape of a ball or cylinder. It is a long process that requires great precision.
Processing that carries history
Wood awakens memories in me
Wood, apart from the incredible possibilities associated with processing, awakens in me a huge sentiment for the time spent together, which I spent with my Grandfather, and this is one of the reasons why I put my whole heart into every single product created in our workshop. Despite the large number of orders, in the evenings I still spend time in our carpentry shop, where I sand or paint the wooden elements of your Salaks.
